Selected curatorial projects
ICE * In Case of Emergency is a transdisciplinary project curated and produced by Sympoietic Society, addressing the disappearance of European glaciers and the erosion of related folklore. Structured around three research-based residencies in Finland, Italy, and Austria, the project fostered collaboration between artists, scientists, local communities, and more-than-human actors. Through workshops, performances, lectures, publications, and communal meals, ICE * explored ecological grief, multispecies interdependence, and sustainable modes of living in the Capitalocene. Food and foraging emerged as key storytelling methodologies, fostering symbiotic relationships with landscapes and microbial life. The project culminated in the Glacier Ceremony on Rote Wand Mountain, a performative farewell to a dying glacier. ICE * received the Kreativpreis Vorarlberg 2025 and was presented internationally.

The Food and Art Alternative MA is a two-year postgraduate programme developed by The Grampounce, focusing on food as a political and cultural subject within contemporary art. Combining critical pedagogy, artistic research, and decolonial approaches, the programme examines power structures shaping food production and distribution while fostering speculative and alternative world-building. Emphasising peer-to-peer learning and interdisciplinary collaboration, the altMA opposes hierarchical education models in favour of shared inquiry and situated methodologies. Teaching formats include seminars, guest lectures, residencies, tutorials, and public engagement. With participants from over 50 countries and diverse professional backgrounds, the programme cultivates a plurality of voices and practices. Collaborators include internationally recognised artists, collectives, and institutions working at the intersection of food, art, and politics.

Water Tales: Weaving a Nomadic Community of Practices for Place-Bound Intimacies is a residency and exhibition project developed by Sympoietic Society, expanding research initiated through ICE *. Beginning with a residency at Saari Residence in Finland, the project engages local waterscapes as agential forces shaping collective practice and ecological attunement. Through shared methodologies, storytelling, and rituals of care, the collective develops practices of mourning-through-making and site-sensitive research. This process culminates in Wesen: Practices for Interspecies Mourning, an exhibition at Galleria Augusta in Suomenlinna. Centring on the concept of ‘glacier ghosts,’ the project explores ecological grief through posthuman storytelling, magic, and spectral imaginaries, unsettling boundaries between life and death while attuning audiences to the affective presence of what has disappeared.

Hosted at Domaine de Boisbuchet, Landscape Cooking is a workshop by The Grampounce exploring cooking and fermentation as practices of ecological attunement. Bringing together artists, chefs, and designers, the workshop investigated how foraging, digestion, and food transformation can blur boundaries between bodies and ecosystems. Guided by the four elements, participants engaged in solar cooking, ethical foraging, earth ovens, plant-based dyes, and ember cooking, alongside meditations, storytelling, and embodied exercises. Drawing on Irit Rogoff’s notion of “becoming research,” the workshop framed food as both method and medium. It culminated in a collective display of edible experiments and recipes, presented on hand-stitched, plant-dyed textile tablecloths that functioned as portable archives of shared knowledge.

A Salt Anthology is a poetic and material exploration of the fragile ecosystems of Portuguese salt pans in Aveiro and Samouco. Developed in collaboration with Inês Coelho da Silva, Joana Viveiros, and interspecies collaborators, the exhibition weaves together scientific research, craft, and speculation through an immersive curatorial narrative. Salt, algae, mud, rushes, and samphire serve as both material and metaphor, forming visual stories that engage the senses of smell, texture, and spatial perception. A poetic text accompanies the artworks, guiding visitors through layered interpretations and sensory encounters. Throughout the exhibition, natural processes slowly transform the works, foregrounding ethics of care, slowness, and maintenance over extractive speed. Through objects, installations, and curatorial storytelling, land and imagination emerge as intertwined languages.
